The main applications for these LEDs are disinfection and sensor technology, e.g. gas measurement. For disinfection, far UVC (235 nm) is safer for skin and eyes than deep UVC (255 nm to 280 nm). Therefore, it is very important to detect it in small traces.\r\n\r\nThe laser manufacturer Norcada from Canada, represented in Europe by EQ Photonics, introduced a DFB laser diode with emission wavelength 1278 nm which is optimized for HF detection.\r\n\r\nThe laser diode is assembled in a TO39 package with TEC and thermistor. The typical optical power is 10 mW.\r\n\r\nA variant with collimation lens is available as well.
